Biography of Genichi Taguchi
Genichi Taguchi was a Japanese engineer and statistician who developed a methodology for applying statistics to improve the quality of manufactured products.
Born on January 1, 1924, in the small town of Tokamachi, Japan, Taguchi initially studied textile production at Kiryu Technical College with the intention of continuing his family's kimono manufacturing business.
However, in 1942, during World War II, Taguchi was called to serve in the Navigation Institute of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
After the war, in 1948, he joined the Ministry of Health and Welfare, where he came under the influence of renowned statistician Matosaburo Masuyama. This inspired Taguchi to conduct experimental work while also working at the Institute of Statistical Mathematics and supporting the production of penicillin at Morinaga Pharmaceuticals.
In 1950, as statisti
