There's always been a sense of illusion in Hauser's work; it was the new possibilities of digital manipulation that first inspired him to take.
Whilst some photographs are concerned only with its aesthetic appeal, others cast aside this preoccupation to forefront the idea behind the image. Regardless of purpose or context, Hauser’s work is always underpinned by his education in Social Psychology, entwining philosophy, mythology, animism, religion and spirituality into his work in a metaphysical manner.
Koen Hauser finished his Masters of Science in Social Psychology (1996, Rijksuniversiteit Leiden), later followed by studying photography at the Royal Academy of Art and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (2002).
He frequently collaborates with different cultural institutes, museums and archives like Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the National Archive and the Rijksmuseum. He received several grants from the Mondrian Fund, and was awarded the title ‘photographer of the Netherlan
