Nikolaj Lie Kaas was born on May 22, 1973, in Rødovre, Denmark.

His parents, actress Anne Marie Lie and actor Preben Kaas, divorced when he was two years old. Kaas lived with his mother and grandmother, carrying the surname Lie, and maintained little contact with his father.
Childhood Trauma and Artistic Beginnings
In the late 1970s, Kaas's mother published an autobiography exposing the alcohol and violence that plagued her marriage to Preben Kaas.
Tragically, his father drowned in 1981, presumed to have committed suicide. Eight years later, Kaas's mother also took her own life.
Theatre Career and Breakthrough
Kaas pursued his passion for acting, enrollin
